Construction airport at Hollongi to begin soon
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The construction of long awaited Hollongi Greenfield airport will begin soon as it was decided at a high level meeting chaired by Union MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in his New Delhi office today.
The meeting attended by a team of officials of Airport Authority of India and civil aviation joint secretary Arun Kumar besides All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union president Kamta Lapung and All Nyishi Students’ Union president Byabang Joram held a threadbare discussion to remove the hurdles to speed up the project, Lapung told this daily over telephone. While Rijiju assured to facilitate environmental clearance at the earliest and directed to start construction of the airport soon, it was decided that the steering committee will meet in Delhi on February 27 next. Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi will be asked to attend the meeting so that all subjects related to the state government could be cleared at one go, Lapung informed.

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: An Intensive Training Programme (ITP) for building capacity of frontline Govt. functionaries, including Circle Officers, PRI members, NGOs, SHGs, villagers, students, youths, church leaders and intellectuals etc. was organized in collaboration with Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Naharlagun with support from PRIs at Community Hall Daring yesterday as a poverty reduction exercise. The programme covered villages under Daring Circle, including New Daring, Old Daring, Zirdo, Ego, Padi, Dali, Rilu and Chisi villages.

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Spice Board of India member Dr Hatobin Mai described the Wanchos as a hardworking people with a rich culture and tradition. Addressing the Oriah festival celebration in Longding district as the chief guest, Dr Mai termed Wanchos “the best craftsmen in the state”. ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The All Siyom Banggo Students' Union (ASBSU) in a meeting held at Pessing Community Hall recently has decided to impose certain restriction upon lifting of gravels within near about 200 meters at Patum quarries /bridge to avert soil erosion and landslides.
The meeting adopted resolution that quarry owners will be restricted to unearth the granites and any means of excavation works and other normal quarrying at the Bridge site.
The meeting decided to appraise the decision taken in the meeting to the district administrations. The meeting further resolved to restrict blasting of any explosive materials at the bridge site/area and violator would be penalized. Diversion of natural river course/stream towards Siyom Banggo/Jomlo area at Somsanghat (burial area) point right bank of Siyom river Aalo, Ngaru point left bank of Siyom River Pessing would be banned immediately, the meeting resolved. Meanwhile, the union and public strongly condemned the Siang District Demand Committee of Siyom Banggo unit for burning tyres which caused the damage to Patum Bridge during January 17 bandh.

Union minister reviewes schemes for tribal people of Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram today conducted a review meeting with the department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh at state banquet hall here.
The meeting which was attended by Minister for Women Empowerment and Tribal Affairs Wanglin Lowangdong, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi and officials from the department specially focused on various programmes and schemes sanctioned by the central government in the field of Health, Education and Skill Development meant for the welfare of the tribal people of the state. AAPSU demands immediate halt of prepaid metering system

In its memorandum, AAPSU apprised the Chief Minister that there has been hue and cry among the consumers against installation of prepaid metering system and demanded the Chief Minister to take immediate step to stop this prepaid metering system.
According to AAPSU release, the Chief Minister has assured to place the prepaid meter issue in the next cabinet meeting. In regards to naming the Jote Law College after Late Gamlin, the Chief Minister has given assurance to fulfill AAPSU’s demand.
The AAPSU president also met the Chief Secretary and raised concern over the cabinet resolution to issue PRC/ST certificates to Lisu and Yobins.
He apprised the Chief Secretary that AAPSU has been opposing the issue of PRC/ST certificates to anyone other than indigenous people of the state.
Saying that AAPSU was also a member of the joint high power committee constituted by the government on the issue, the apex students body of the state questioned as to how the government has taken such a big step without recommendation of the union.
The students’ union strongly urged the state government to make proper study at the ground level so that this decision does not harm the indigenous population of the state.
“AAPSU will never accept this cabinet decision without proper study. Otherwise, we will take our own course of action in a democratic manner,” the release said. APPSU expressed concern that this may encourage other sections of the refugees residing in the state like Chakmas and Hajongs to give PRC/ST status.

Animal husbandry department kicks off fertility camps in Namsai
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department of Namsai district kicked off a series of fertility camps in the district yesterday by organizing a fertility camp at Namsai district headquarters. The programme aims at improving productivity of cattle through dissemination of information regarding reproductive problems including special focus on awareness generation for artificial insemination.
While attending the programme, Namsai MLA Chow Zingnu Namchoom emphasized on up grading local cattle through artificial insemination or natural breeding. He categorically stated that Namsai district has the greatest potential in dairy development in the entire state due to its suitable location as well as topographical advantages.
Deputy Commissioner R.K.Sharma urged upon the farmers to actively consider dairy farming as a means of livelihood. It is also expected that Dairy Plant will be established in Namsai district under IDDP, he informed.

However it seems state government is now seriously taking action against such groups. As per the report in local media, State Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi recently held a review meeting of police action on forceful collection of money by the students’ unions in the preceding quarter. CS expressed satisfaction on the action taken by the district police against criminals who have been forcefully collecting money or making demands in the name of student unions. As per the report, action has been initiated against various student unions and community based organizations. This initiative of state government deserves appreciation. But they need to continue it and don’t allow few bunch of goons to run amok in the state. Arunachal need to create healthy atmosphere in order to attract business community to invest in the state.

Time to pay back to animals

We humans are intelligent enough to make use of animals for our own benefit, but
sometimes we go beyond borders of human decency and misuse or give trouble to animals.
Man’s oldest and best friend-
Whether it is human beings or animals, all are entitled to live their full life. When we humans have a problem we voice our views through an association which has a leader. But unfortunately these voiceless animals have to depend on humans to speak for their rights. We who consider ourselves superior to animals have taken a lot from them, but it is high time we give back to animals what is due to them.

Ensure installation of proper ILP checking mechanism
Dear Editor,
It is indeed very good news for us that Rajdhani Express train service will start operation from Naharlagun very soon. It would be very helpful for our students studying in North Indian states and business too will improve. But, in the context of the ignorance and backwardness of our people and with the threat of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who have become the ruling party of Tripura and leader of Opposition in Assam, I would request our CM, student unions, NGOs, societies, social workers, media persons and professors of our university to study about legal ways by which illegal migrants can be prevented from entering and settling in AP with the opening of railways in our state. The main banner of the railway station at Yupia is in Assamese language. I would not blame any outsider, but such act of disregarding the interest and convenience of local people could only be possible with the help of our own ministers, officers, contractors, students and people living in Yupia. This act indicates the level of compromise our Arunachal people can make for some petty personal benefits. This incident also predicts that our minister, officers, students unions, societies, media, professors and common people of AP would never bother about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants until all AP people are dominated and deprived by exponential and magical inflow and growth of Bangladeshi immigrants. By that time it would be totally useless to wake up to regain the lost ground by any means. Today is the right time for all minister, officers, students unions, societies, media, professors and common people of AP to formulate stringent strategies to check the incoming of any illegal migrants and stop compromising on this issue for the sake of some petty personal financial benefits. I would like to request our CM and concerned railway authorities to replace the main railway banner written in Assamese with another banner written in either Hindi or English which our AP people are comfortable with. Not only the main banner, but all other banners should be in English and Hindi.
